www.aarongiles.comAaron has decided to fix "most" of the KI bugs in MAME. Since there are very few bugs to fix, I'm assuming "most" will be "all", or extremely close. This is a great day. Finally we might get that perfect KI emulation we've been wanting for so long. So get yourself a P4 2.6ghz (or more) if you haven't already and get ready for perfect KI emulation (or very d**n close)! w00t!

This is what irritates me about MAME (or SUCKS as the emu is getting known as these days), why should we get a 2.6ghz processor just to play a game that should run on well less than 1ghz? MAME has always been an awful emulator anyway (big game lists does not equal good emulator as most fanboys fail to understand) that is always plagued with bugs that shouldn't be there in the first place and is only (just about) good for playing the 80's classics on... anything else is just a waste of time.

That's because MAME emulates everything the hard way and strives on accuracy over speed. With that new update Aaron is doing, MAME's emulation of KI is going to be much more accurate than U64Emu's. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have bugless games that requires a better computer than a bug-ridden game that runs on ghetto computers.

And it's done! MAME 0.81u4 is out and KI is now emulated to perfection. And jmd, it now supports all three known romsets: 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5d. In fact 1.5d is now the parent rom.

Shadowlord, do you know where i can get 1.5d parent rom for mame.
Also, i have found a file that says it's mame v81 with kaillera, if you want, i haven't test it, but i'll tonight. if it works, maybe we can arrenge some netplay fights.
if you have the parent roms for KI for mame v81 can you send them to my email?

Williegomezt,you need no special roms for the new mame 0.81u4. You can use the roms from the u64emu. Just zip it up and name it kinst I would zip up all maincodes in the zip(then you can switch between the versions 1.3,1.4.1.5d) For netplay only the vers.0.81u3 have a kaillera client at the moment,but the KI fixes are only in vers.081u4. I'm sure if i update the vers.081u3 too 0.81u4(via diff update)then i could use netplay with the 081u4 version. I test that later today. Let's hope netplay is better with the new mame. KI online would be very cool!!! ;D I have testet KI with the 0.81u4 version a while now and i must say it runs really good on my comp 2.1ghz  A friend has testet it with a 1.7ghz cpu and it was also fine. I have compared the u64emu with the new mame and must say it looks a lot better with mame now. I have also seen no bugs(gfx or finishers)so far. But the sound needs to be fixed. The sound is very bad. If they would fix the sound then it would be a nearly perfect KI1 emulation(at least with a cpu 1.7ghz and higher) i would play KI1 with mame then. I have also testet KI2,but it's a little slow on my comp(even if i disable the throttle in mame) I guess you need at least a 2.5 ghz cpu to play it right. But it's cool to see improvements with the KI emulation in mame. At least the gfx bugs(skies in tusk and orchid stage and the sea in spinal stage)is fixed now. Let's hope the sound is fixed in the next update. |

Sound in MAME is perfect on my 2.4ghz, although it isn't in KI2, which drops below 100% 60/60fps. So I'm guessing you're not achieving 100% speed in KI1.

No matter which game(KI,pacman,bank panic or other classics) And please don't tell me the original KI arcade machine runs with 60fps. It's not true.I don't know the exact fps,but it's slower as in mame. You only believe that because you see it on the locked 60/60fps screen. I have played KI in the arcade a few weeks ago and i can say you that it's not so fast like it is in the new mame with my 2.1ghz cpu. If you believe that KI has 60fps i bet you also think the release date of KI2 in the years list of mame is right.1994. ;D I have no problem to upgrade my cpu,but the only reason why you need such a high cpu is because mame don't care about the games. And why must i upgrade my cpu for the sound? The speed is fine. If you tell me my sound problems are because it runs not with 100% 60/60 then i say mame is lame. They should emulate the games right and stop to lock all games at 60fps. Maybe mame emulates all the hard way,but a 2.5ghz for KI1 or a 2.8ghz for KI2? That sounds not right for me. I play games,i'm a KI fan(i mean of the games) It seems you are more a fan of the KI emulation. Or why you want a *perfect emulation* *Perfect emulation* sounds just funny for me. The only perfect thing is the real thing. Buy an arcade machine or a jamma board. It's cool to see some improvements with KI in mame. If i compare mame with the u64emu i must say the mame emulation looks a lot better. But the sound bugs are really annoying for me.  I hope netplay works better now. I always said that 60 fps is not the real speed of the PCB... but...  for this comment I was BANNED from an old KI forum I think that the right speed is 53 fps (approx..) like MK's regards |

jmd - if you were banned from a forum for stating the correct running speed of KI then that is seriously harsh (not to mention ignorant of the person who banned you). Then again, i've had people whinge at me in the past claiming the running speed was 60fps despite the fact I had it confirmed it is 53fps from not only various websites (that actually know what they are talking about), but people that actually own the original arcade boards. This is what MAME does to people though, they slap on every game that its running speed is 60fps and everyone believes them... |

Well it seems that DCS sound requires extremely accurate and tight timing to not break, and that doesn't happen when your emulation speed drops below 100% of the original. If you can't run the game at full speed, then you can't blame MAME. Any other emu would do the same (U64Emu is no better, even at full speed). And KI does run at 60hz. Some guy at MAME testers compared KI2 to his board and the emulation is 100% in sync with the board. You guys must be dreaming or something. And why would both rcp and Mamedev be wrong on this? The game would totally break if it didn't run at the right fps.

I agree with the DCS sound. That's the reason why mame is lame. The fps of KI are never 60fps,even if you cannot believe that. And mame is lame because they lock every game to 60fps. Maybe that is not important for the classic games but if mame KI emulation needs such a accurate timing for the sound why they lock it to 60 fps then? I know why,because it is easier to use it as norm for every game. I can only laugh about mame testers and the whole mame team. I say it again,look in your mame under the years and you will find KI2 in 1994. ;D ;D ;D Come on,they are so uninformed they are not able to right the real release date down,so why you believe KI runs with 60fps? If it is only because you believe the mame testers then you are the dreamer.lol I know you dont believe me,but this shows only that you have never played KI in the arcade or it's very long ago since you have seen it the last time. I had a few problems the last time i have played KI in the arcade because i always play KI1 with 60fps with the u64emu. If you would play most of the combos then you would see and feel the speed difference. It's not that the arcade machine is too slow,it's only that mame emulates KI wrong.  ;D But now i stop because i know you will never believe me. |
